The Yearly Garrison
Tuesday, 27 December 2011 15:02

As we reach the end of 2011, I think it's only right that I spend some time looking back at how The Garrison has done over the past year.

The Cataclysm

While Cataclysm actually came out towards the end of 2010, we didn't really have that much time to play it that year, as as such all of TGs achievements have come during 2011. I've really enjoyed the revamped world and the new zones, as I think they've bought the game forwards filling in blank spots in the map and smoothing out some of the dead zones around the world. The content also seems well balanced between PvE and PvP, with the new world catering to both.

Raiding

We are on the fourth and final raid of Cataclysm with Blackwing Descent, Bastion of Twilight and Firelands all falling to The Garrison raiders. The Garrison has kept four raiding teams going throughout the year. Fluffy have been pushing for 1st Alliance ranking on Dunemaul, while Grumpy and Don's Johnson's have kept a healthy competition going between them. The Muffins have also been progressing through content, providing a much more casual form of raiding in keeping with TGs inclusive ethos.

 4N 4N 4N
 Firelands7N / 6H
 7N 7N 7N
 Dragon Soul6N / 0H
 4N 5N

The next goal for all teams will be completion of Dragon Soul, and hopefully some time on heroic modes. I can see it being a while until Mists of Pandaria is released, so there should be plenty of time for a good go at completing it.

PvP

Being a raider, I don't spend much time covering PvP on the front page, but I feel that I should make sure that everyone knows we have some excellent PvP players in the guild. Covering both battlegrounds and arena, we have teams like NubCorn, Languages and Toothless Fairies taking the fight to the Horde. Hopefully in 2012, I can cover a bit more of their action on the frontpage, as we can look forward to higher ranks and more victories.

Achievements

The Garrison was the number 1 ranked guild for achievements on Dunemaul for a time, helped by people taking time to run guild instances at record pace. We also reached guild level 25 in rapid time, but like a lot of guilds on Dunemaul missed out on getting there first by some creative Blizzard accounting on the first day. I would also be remiss for not mentioning the somewhat insane amount of time some people have spent in 2012 getting personal points to new highs.

Players

Ultimately, The Garrison is made up of people who enjoy playing the game together. Over the past year we've seen a few long standing members leave for various reasons, but we've also been able to welcome a lot of new players to the guild. It's been good to seen TG continuing to grow, although in a much different form to the previous 25 man raiding guild from TBC and WotLK. Change is always difficult, but it's been great to see the new people getting on so well, and a lot of people working together in all content to help continue making TG a successful guild.

The Future

The next year will probably bring a new expansion, which will hopefully continue to provide new challenges for all players in The Garrison. There are also a number of new games available, SWTOR and GW2 in particular, where hopefully new TG communities can be established. We will undoubtedly lose players as they find other things to do with their time, but will always be welcome on the forums or in game to let us know how they are doing. I'm sure will we also find new people who fit into the TG community and become invaluable parts of our online experience.

The Recruiting Garrison

With the Throne of Thunder open for quite few weeks now, The Garrison's raiding teams were venturing there to take all the epic loot from Thunderking himself. Here is an update on their progression, but in the mean time a quick recruitment announcement:

Garrison is recruiting! We, as always, are looking for mature players to fill in our ranks. We are equally interested in social and raiding candidates. If you are interested in joining us - head over to the recruitment part of our forum, read up on our guild charter and fill in our application form. If you are interested in raiding - take a look at our raiding teams sticky and see which one of our many teams suit your style best.

Team Grumpy

Grumpies are getting further into the instance and recently they killed Horridon and got themselves to 2/12 progression. Currently Team Grumpy is progressing on Council of Elders and our inside sources indicate that kill is imminent.

Team Fluffy

Team Fluffy has officially put Horridon on farm and with some help from new Sha touched weapons from previous tier is also progressing on Council. Stay tuned for more.

Don's Johnsons

Johnsons are progressing on the big dino - Horridon while cleaning up the remaining unkilled bosses in T14. Most likely we should expect fresh kills from Johnsons soon as well.

The 25th Garrison

The proud group of mounted Garrisonians seen below came together to celebrate The Garrison reaching guild level 25. While this means the levelling adventure is over, each Garrisonite knows that there are plenty more adventures to have around Azeroth. You'll find the Garrionese around Stormwind, in instances, raids and PvP, continuing to bring maturity, humour and made up words to the World of Warcraft. Garrisonlanders, I salute you!

The King is Dead

Last week on The Garrison's second trip to Gruul's Lair High King Maulgar was vanquished, dropping some purple plate in the process. Gruul himself is now firmly in our sights - he was down to 40% last week and should find himself on zero very soon. See TG's dkp site for full details of raiding progress.

With Throne of Thunder released lately, The Garrison's raiding teams were making their way into the depths of the old troll structure. Here is an update on their progress.

Team Fluffy

Fluffies went in to ToT with a vengeance. After killing Jin'Rokh on the first week, Horridon fell down on the second, placing Team Fluffy in the lead of our progression race.

Team Grumpy

It was a busy week for Grumpies. After killing Jin'Rokh and wiping on Horridon, Team Grumpy went back to the Terrace to finish the unfinished business they had with Sha of Fear. Long story short - Sha died on second pull, Grmupies got the first set of "Tranquil Master" titles and cleared whole T14 content.

Don's Johnsons

Jin'Rokh was quite unlucky this week - all it took was a visit from Don himself to make the big troll go splat. Johnsons kill the first boss in ToT on the first day there. While progressing on Horridon the team has also went to revisit the T14 content finally killing Garalon and scoring fresh new Windlord kill.
